The dragon

The dragon is a very important element in Solsona’s main festival together with the old giant. It is very heavy, 96 kg, because it is made with a wooden structure and covered with 10.000 scales. Again it is important to preserve it because it has existed for about 300 years.

It dates back to 1692 and it has only undergone minimal restorations on the wings and the scales. It is one of the oldest dragons of Catalonia together with the ones in Vilafranca del Penedès and Bisbal d’Emporadà. It has great detailed sculptural beauty compared to the rest of the historical dragons. Its dance is progressive and it culminates with the explosion of two fireworks it carries in the mouth. It is also present during the fire wheel.
